The mighty Turmeric

It is so much more than just an ingredient that imparts a delicious flavor to dishes! Curcumin, the active ingredient in turmeric, makes it a strong anti-inflammatory, anti-microbial, anti-fungal, anti-bacterial, analgesic, and antioxidant.

Here are some of the ways that turmeric can be used, other than for cooking:

  • Apply a thick layer of turmeric powder to scratches and burns to reduce pain and inflammation and to heal wounds quickly. Cover it with a bandage or gauze to protect your clothes from staining. You'll be amazed at the results. My pre-teen daughter thinks it's magical!

  • Recipe for a brightening face mask - 1 tablespoon rice flour 10 drops fresh lemon juice1/8 teaspoon organic turmeric powder rose water to make a thick paste

Combine all ingredients in a small, clean bowl and mix well. Use a face brush or your fingers to apply the mask evenly on your face. Avoid getting too close to your eyes. Leave on for 15-20 minutes, or until the mask becomes tight, then wash it off.
